Last Updated: Tuesday, November 3, 2009 | 2:33 PM CT

Two men have been charged after a crime spree that included a series of armed robberies, a police pursuit, and a foot chase that ended at Winnipeg's Health Science Centre.

Justin Michael Henderson, 20, has been charged with numerous offences involving robbery, firearms, wearing a disguise, flight from an officer and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

He has also been charged with assault regarding an unrelated matter. He has been detained in custody at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.

A 16-year-old youth, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with a variety of firearms offences, robbery with a firearm and taking a motor vehicle without consent.

He has been detained at the Manitoba Youth Centre.

4 armed robberies

According to police, the men were involved in a series of incidents on Monday that began just after 6:30 a.m. when a 32-year-old man was confronted in the 700 block of Elgin Avenue by a male armed with a gun.

The armed male demanded the victim's personal property, which was turned over. The suspect then fled the area.

At 9 a.m., two males and a female, all 18, were confronted by a male armed with a gun in a parking lot in the 600 block of Portage Avenue. The suspect fled the area without receiving anything.

Then at 11:20 a.m., a 21-year-old man was walking in a parking lot at the rear of the 300 block of Portage Avenue when he was confronted by two males, one who was armed with a firearm.

The suspects demanded and received an undisclosed amount of cash and other personal property from the victim before running away.

At 2:47 p.m., a 55-year-old man was confronted and threatened by an armed male in the 300 block of Edmonton Street.

The suspect robbed the victim of personal property, including a set of keys, and fled with a second suspect in the victim's vehicle.

None of the people confronted by the suspects was harmed, police said.

Stolen car chased

The stolen car and two suspects were spotted a few minutes later by police in the 700 block of Logan Avenue. A brief chase ensued but was quickly called off, police said.

The suspects abandoned the vehicle in the 700 block of Ross Avenue and fled into the Health Sciences Centre.

One of the suspects was apprehended by hospital security staff and turned over to police.

At 4:14 p.m., the second suspect was arrested in a stairwell of the hospital as he tried to make his way to the roof of the building.

Police said a firearm was recovered during the arrests.
