A proposed cut to Greyhound bus service between Flin Flon and Thompson has been delayed because of public opposition to the service reduction.
Snow Lake's mayor Garry Zamzow said hundreds of concerns sent to the Motor Transport Board have convinced the board to hold public hearings on the proposed cuts.
On the chopping block is service between Flin Flon and Thompson, which operates three days a week, as well as a van service between Snow Lake and Ponton. The cut was originally scheduled to happen last week.
Through the hearings, Greyhound will learn why its service is a lifeline to Snow Lake residents, said Zamzow. The bus service is needed to haul not only people but supplies for businesses in Snow lake, he said.
"Eliminating the service [prevents] Snow Lakers from jumping on a bus and obtaining services that we need to have and aren't able to get in our community — from doctors, to dentists, to legal, to supplying necessary needs on an emergency basis," Zamzow said.
The public hearings will happen in Flin Flon on July 7, in Snow Lake on July 8 and in Thompson on July 9.
