U.S. President Barack Obama recently had a swing and play set installed on the White House lawn for his children that use parts supplied by Acrylon Plastics Inc., a supplier in southern Manitoba.
Acrylon Plastics Inc. of Winkler supplies tube parts to Rainbow Play Systems Inc. of South Dakota, which recently installed one of its swing sets using Acrylon components, operations manager Ron Funk said.
On March 5, Rainbow Play Systems emailed Acrylon with a website link, showing the new playground set on the south grounds of the White House, Funk said.
"From what I gather, they wanted a green slide, or a green structure," said Funk, adding the Obamas wanted something that was environmentally friendly.
Funk said he hopes the exposure will help his company as the sales of playground structures in the U.S. have been down because of the recession.
