An eight-year-old unsolved death will return to a Winnipeg court Wednesday — but not to charge or convict a suspect.
The CBC and other media outlets will be arguing against extending an order that bars public access to information contained in search warrants relating to the death of Bev Rowbotham, a 42-year-old mother of two.
Rowbotham was found dead in her car in a gas station near Selkirk, Man., in October 2000. Investigators believe she had been beaten to death in the backyard of her home in nearby St. Andrews, then moved to Selkirk.
No suspects have been identified in her death.
In 2005, a Manitoba judge sealed portions of a warrant used to search the Rowbotham family home and to obtain DNA evidence in the case.
The order expires Wednesday.
A special hearing to extend the order keeping the documents sealed will be held Thursday; the CBC and other media outlets will oppose the extension and ask the court to make information in the warrant public.
