Loblaws recalls canned green beans for botulism danger
Products sold in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, B.C.

Canada's food watchdog and Loblaws Inc. are warning consumers that cans of No Name French Style Green Beans are being recalled from the marketplace because they may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, the bacteria that causes botulism.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency said Thursday the recall affects the 398-ml cans of No Name French Style Green Beans with the UPC Code 60383 03310. The beans were sold in Loblaws stores in Ontario, and in Real Canadian Superstores in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and B.C. The cans are marked with one of the following codes in the top line of the can code:
- EAA5247.
- EAA5257.
- EAA5267.
- EAA5277.
- EAB5247.
- EAB5257.
- ECA5207.
- ECA5217.
- ECA5227.
- ECA5297.
- ECB5207.
- ECB5217.
- ECB5227.
- ECB5307.
A larger recall involving French Style Green Beans manufactured by Wisconsin-based Lakeside Foods Inc. has been issued in the U.S.
Food contaminated with Clostridium botulinum may not look or smell spoiled, but can cause serious illness or death in severe cases. Consuming products tainted with the toxin may cause nausea, vomiting, fatigue, dizziness, headache, double vision, dry throat, respiratory failure and paralysis.
No illnesses associated with the Loblaws product have been reported.
