Two people were arrested after RCMP searched a pair of homes Wednesday on the Ermineskin First Nation near Hobbema, Alta., and seized 26 guns.

The RCMP alleges officers found 26 firearms, including rifles and handguns, at a home near Hobbema, Alta. The RCMP alleges officers found 26 firearms, including rifles and handguns, at a home near Hobbema, Alta. (RCMP)

The firearm haul included 11 rifles, seven handguns and six shotguns, police said in a statement.

"A number of the firearms were unregistered and at least one was reported stolen," the Mounties said.

Some of the guns were packaged in a way that suggested they were being trafficked, police said. Officers also found ammunition, knives, a police scanner and a small amount of marijuana.

A woman was arrested in one home and is accused of breaching the terms of a conditional sentence.

A man taken into custody in the home with the guns has been charged with 26 weapons and drug offences, police said Thursday.

The Ermineskin Cree Nation is one of four First Nations in and around Hobbema.
