(Min Dhariwal/CBC)The body of a man was found early Wednesday morning in an alley near 118th Avenue and 127th Street in northwest Edmonton.

A passerby found the man lying face-up around 2:30 a.m, Det. Bill Clark said.

"We got a white male. We don't have identification on him or anything at this time. We don't know who he is at this time," he said.

The man's body remained in the alley while police conducted their investigation Wednesday morning. He was wearing a sleeveless t-shirt and a pair of jeans. Another article of clothing was lying nearby.

Officers canvassed the houses near the alley but no one saw or heard anything, Clark said.

Heather Rae, who lives nearby, said police knocked on her door about 4 a.m. Afterward, she had a look outside.

"When I saw that he had no coat on … in my mind it made me feel — oh my goodness, maybe he was, like, at [the] house next door or down the road … instead of just ditched out of a car or something," she said. "Because who goes out without a coat at that time of the night?"

Edmonton police are calling the man's death suspicious.
