Muttart Conservatory (City of Edmonton) The newly renovated Muttart Conservatory in Edmonton reopened Friday, and a party to mark the official opening is to take place on Saturday.
The conservatory has been closed to the public since March 2008 while $6.3 million in renovations were completed. They include an outdoor courtyard, a waterfall, improved wheelchair accessibility and additional classroom space for students.
The new rooms can accommodate over 120 students, Judith Rohovie, the director of the Muttart Conservatory said on Thursday.
"We've now created three classrooms, two multi-use classrooms and one wet classroom. The wet classroom allows us to do planting activities," Rohovie said.
This will be a big improvement over the old set-up, which involved putting students at tables in the centre court with all the public milling around, she said.
The three glass pyramids of the Muttart are a landmark in Edmonton's river valley.
