Man allegedly pulls gun on paramedics after morning collision

A man in his mid-twenties was arrested Friday morning after he allegedly pointed a gun at Edmonton paramedics who were treating him after a vehicle collision.
EMS and fire officials responded to a crash between a truck and several parked vehicles around 10:30 a.m. near 158th Street and 111th Avenue, said police spokesperson Karen Carlson.
When paramedics took the truck driver into the back of an ambulance for treatment, they noticed he had a handgun in a holster around his waist.
Before they could do anything, he allegedly pointed the gun at the paramedics, Carlson said.
The paramedics jumped out, and shortly after, the man got out of the ambulance and walked away.
Edmonton police officers found him five blocks away and took him into custody.
Police were expected to lay charges against the man, Carlson said.
The paramedics weren't injured, but very shaken up, she said.
"This really highlights the unknowns, the inherent dangers that all emergency responders face when they're dealing with people that they don't know and dealing with people in unusual situations," Carlson said.
