Two drivers, including a school bus operator, have been charged in connection with a collision that snarled rush hour traffic at a major south Edmonton intersection on Wednesday morning.
A school bus heading east on 63rd Avenue at 8:20 a.m., was making a left turn at the 99th Street intersection, when it was hit by a car coming through a yellow light from the opposite direction, police said.
The bus was taking students to J.H. Picard School at the time of the crash.
Three children on the bus were treated at the scene for minor injuries. The 44-year-old female driver of the car was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure and released.
She has been charged with failing to obey a traffic control device.
The man driving the bus, 41, has been charged with making an unsafe left turn.
Charges are pending against the owner of the bus after officers with the Commercial Vehicle Inspection Unit found mechanical defects on the vehicle, according to police.
Police said the defects are unrelated to the collision.
The bus was towed and removed from service.
