U.S. molester deported from Alberta

Last Updated: Thursday, July 29, 2010 | 4:44 PM MT

An American sex offender who completed his prison term for molesting two children in Olds, Alta. has been deported from Canada.

William Arthur Maguire, 45, pleaded guilty in 2008 to two counts of sexual interference with a minor and was sentenced to 42 months behind bars.

Upon completion of his sentence on Wednesday, Maguire — who is an American citizen — was taken directly from a Calgary-area prison and escorted to Portland, Canadian officials confirmed on Thursday.

Maguire is permanently barred from returning to Canada, said Lisa White, a spokeswoman with the Canada Services Border Agency.

The molester's partner, Eugene David Maguire, 50, was also convicted of sexual interference with a minor. He is serving a sentence of 54 months.

Both men were living in Olds, about 100 kilometres north of Calgary, when they were arrested.
