Fire ban issued in Rocky View, Cochrane
Last Updated: Friday, October 31, 2008 | 4:32 PM MT
CBC News
The fire departments in Rocky View and Cochrane have issued Level II fire bans amid very dry conditions in the southern Alberta areas.
On Friday afternoon, the Municipal District of Rocky View placed a ban on all open fires until further notice. The town of Cochrane, just northwest of Calgary, cited dry and windy conditions for its ban.
A Level II fire ban, which indicates a severe fire risk, includes:
- Incinerators (for farm and acreage use).
- Regulated burning barrels and fire pits.
- Charcoal and other solid fuel barbecues.
- Chimeneas.
Internal household fireplaces, camp stoves and propane and natural gas barbecues are exempt from the ban.
There are three levels of fire bans: moderate, severe and extreme risk.
