More than 18,000 homes in B.C.'s Lower Mainland were without power late Thursday after heavy winds blew through the area.
The areas most affected appeared to be Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Langley, Surrey and Abbotsford, according to the BC Hydro website.
Many homes and businesses were expected to be back on line later Thursday night, but many others were not expected to have power back before 8:00 a.m. PT Friday.
Heavy wind and rainfall warnings for the Fraser Valley were issued by Environment Canada earlier Thursday.
The warnings called for southerly winds of 50 to 70 kilometres and hour and rainfall in excess of 50 millimetres.
