Nanaimo man shot dead by police

An RCMP officer shot one person dead near a Nanaimo, B.C., courthouse Friday morning, the force has confirmed.

Police have yet to release the identity or gender of the victim but said the shooting took place around 7 a.m. PT. near a secondary courthouse in the Vancouver Island city.

RCMP released few details, but unconfirmed media reports said police were called out to a home in the downtown area to deal with an agitated man.
