The Trans-Canada Highway near Bridal Falls in B.C.'s Fraser Valley reopened Friday evening after being closed for five hours because of a collision involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle.

Crews allowed traffic in both directions back on the highway at about 5:30 p.m. PT after blocking off a six-kilometre portion of the highway from Annis Road to the junction with Highway 9 at 12:30 p.m.

The closure caused a major traffic backup. Eastbound traffic detoured via Highway 11 in Abbotsford and Highway 7 to Hope. Westbound traffic was rerouted via Highway 7 in Hope and Highway 11 in Mission.

3 injured in accident

The collision occurred at about 11:55 a.m. eastbound on the highway, east of the Annis Road exit, Upper Fraser Valley RCMP said.

"A tractor-trailer lost control causing it to leave the roadway, taking out several cement barricades in the centre median," Const. Lea-Anne Dunlop said. "A personal vehicle in the westbound lane was struck as a result."

The overturned tractor-trailer and scattered debris prompted the highway closure, Dunlop said.

"The two occupants of the personal vehicle, and the driver of the truck were all taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries," she said.

The cause of the collision is being investigated.
