Groom dies from apparent cocaine overdose at Kelowna bachelor party

Last Updated: Tuesday, May 26, 2009 | 8:31 AM PT

A weekend bachelor party in Kelowna, B.C., ended tragically after the groom was found dead from an apparent drug overdose in his hotel room early Sunday morning.

The 26-year-old from Surrey, B.C., was visiting the Interior town with family and friends to celebrate his coming marriage, according to Const. Steve Holmes of the Kelowna RCMP detachment.

Witnesses told police the groom was drinking and doing cocaine for several hours just before he was last seen alive around 4:30 a.m. Sunday. Around noon, he was discovered dead in his hotel room, said Holmes.

The initial investigation by police and the coroner found no evidence of foul play and the death did not appear suspicious, but an autopsy will be required to determine the exact cause of death, said Holmes.

Police did not release the groom's name.
