An ultralight aircraft crashed Monday afternoon at the Vernon Regional Airport in B.C., killing the pilot, who was travelling alone, the airport manager said.
The incident happened shortly before 2 p.m. The RCMP, the B.C. Ambulance Services and the B.C. Coroners Service were all on the scene.
The plane went down on a ramp at the airport, which is an access way leading to the main taxiway, Grahame Go, the airport's manager, said.
"The plane was flying and had some kind of control issue and then crashed," Go told CBC News in a telephone interview.
"The coroner is on scene and doing an investigation, and we are going to let him do his work," he said.
"I don't know if he will be handing it over to the Transportation Safety Board or the RCMP. He has control of the scene right now."
There is no word on the cause of the crash, but the Transportation Safety Board of Canada said it does not plan to send a team of investigators to the scene.
"Our investigators will provide assistance to the coroner, but there's no plan to attend the scene at this time," said Bill Yearwood, a regional manager with the Transportation Safety Board.
The name of the male pilot has not been released.
