The largest riding on Vancouver Island has been taken by incumbent NDP MLA Claire Felicity Trevena.
Trevena, who won the 2005 election by 660 votes, managed to secure a clean victory Tuesday evening, capturing 52 per cent of the popular vote in the North Island riding.
Liberal candidate Marion Wright, trailed at 39 per cent, while Green candidate Philip Stone lagged with just 7.3 per cent.
Nearly 50 per cent of the island voted NDP, while roughly 40 per cent voted Liberal. Those statistics were reflected in many individual ridings, as well.
In Powell River-Sunshine Coast, for instance, NDP candidate Nicholas Simons captured just under 60 per cent of the popular vote, while Liberal candidate Dawn Miller took 34 per cent.
In Nanaimo, the NDP's Leonard Krog clinched a victory with 54 per cent of the vote, while Liberal Jeet Manhas took 36 per cent.
NDP candidate John Horgan took 57 per cent of the votes in Juan de Fuca, while Liberal candidate Jody Twa received 34 per cent of the vote.
