New Democrats take three key Victoria-area ridings

The B.C. New Democrat Party has won three key ridings in the Victoria area of Vancouver Island.
In Esquimalt-Royal Roads, Maurine Karagianis took over 50 per cent of the vote, sending B.C. Green party leader Jane Sterk to defeat in her own riding. B.C. Liberal Carl Edward Ratsoy got about 30 per cent, with Sterk finishing a distant third at just over 15 per cent of the vote.
In Saanich South, New Democrat Lana Popham won just under 50 per cent of the vote, with Liberal Robin Adair trailing close behind with just over 45 per cent. Green Brian Geoffrey Gordon took just over five per cent.
B.C. New Democrat Leader Carole James took Victoria-Beacon Hill with over 50 per cent of the vote. Liberal Dallas Henault followed with just over 25 per cent, and Green candidate Adam Saab polled just under 20 per cent of the vote.
In Victoria-Swan Lake, New Democrat incumbent Rob Fleming took over 60 per cent of the vote.
Liberal Jesse McClinton followed with just over 25 per cent and Green David Wright took just over 10 per cent of the vote.
