Premier Gordon Campbell has announced $800 million in government spending that he said will create thousands of jobs, as well as housing for the homeless and improvements for schools.
Campbell said Tuesday that $172 million will be spent on six housing developments in Vancouver, creating 569 units of housing for the homeless.
The premier announced 113 infrastructure projects in total, which the government hopes will create 4,800 jobs.
The projects include 478 housing units in seven other communities, 30 school renovations to the tune of $424 million and $59 million in improvements to correctional facilities, courthouses and other public safety buildings.
Another $8 million will be spent on nine projects for the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
The infrastructure spending is part of a $14-billion, three-year plan announced by the province to help British Columbia through the worldwide recession.
