Ron Wood, the former press secretary to Reform Party founder Preston Manning, is shifting his allegiances to the Alberta Liberals in the provincial election.
Wood said Thursday the governing Tories under Premier Ed Stelmach are tired, old and complacent and "need some time in exile."
Now retired, Wood said he's endorsing Liberal candidate Pat Murray in his home riding of Calgary North Hill.
Both the Opposition Liberals and the New Democrats are hoping to capitalize on a growing sense of frustration with the Conservatives, who have governed Alberta for more than 36 straight years.
Wood said the provincial Conservatives need to "reinvent themselves" and have neither drive nor vision. The current Alberta Liberal party seems to share many of his fiscally conservative views, he said.
