Immigration patterns have compelled the Alberta government to offer its test for new drivers to obtain a learners permit in eight languages besides English.
Starting Monday, people can take the electronic test for a Class 7 licence in English, Arabic, Chinese, French, Hindi, Punjabi, Spanish, Vietnamese and Tagalog, which is the language spoken in the Philippines.
The Alberta government chose the languages based on the first language spoken by people who immigrated to the province between 2004 and 2006.
The knowledge tests are now available at more than 200 registry agents across Alberta.
