This is our CBC Little Free Library, we love it!
I'm rounding up another CBC Do Crew for a Little Free Library Building Bee. Little Free Libraries are a great way to encourage literacy and build great communities. It's a simple idea you can leave a book or take a book ...or both.
Our goal is to build 5 LFL's that can then be autioned off to support local community associations.
I need 10 volunteers who aren't afraid to get creative and a little dirty. Please wear your "best" painting clothes.
Thanks to Kathryn Audet, Store Manager for the Marlborough Home Depot for donating our lumber, plexiglass & paint. Any extra supplies you could bring along, paint trays, brushes, dropcloths, extra paint in bright colours, etc. would be much appreciated. (If you are bringing paint it needs to be exterior latex paint.anything else won't stand up.)

Hike For Hospice 2013

Calgary Horticultural Society Shed Build

Happy Spring everyone! I need ten volunteers to help me build a garden shed for the Calgary Horticultural Society.
The society uses their backyard as a demo community garden. Community members can take part in classes and workshop opportunities. The shed is much needed component, providing a safe place to store all of their tools & materials.
Shed Solutions has donated a 6' X 8' shed kit, now we need to put it together. We'll be in the backyard at the Calgary Horticultural Society, 208 - 50 Ave. S.W. it's the blue bungalow on the NW corner of 50th and Macleod Tr. South.
We'll be constructing the shed, painting and helping with clean up in the yard.
Who knows what the weather will be like, I'm forecasting a beautiful sunny day, but Mother Nature might have other plans. Please dress appropriately. Layers are always a good idea and boots are probably a smart choice.
Tools are being supplied all you need to bring is your gardening gloves, hat & sunglasses.
The delightful folks from the Horticultural Society will be providing refreshments.

Hockey Quest 500 - to benefit Right to Play

Location: Cochrane - Spray lakes Sawmills Family Sports Centre
Time: 7:30 - 5pm
Our first Do Crew Mission of the New Year is helping Martin Parnell with his latest Guiness Record Attempt, Hockey Quest 500. Martin has teamed up with the Kimmett Cup for the event on Saturday January 19th. It's the biggest exhibition game of hockey ever played, 500 players will play ten minutes each over a nine hour period to set the record. In order to accurately record the attempt Martin needs witnesses at the event. Those witnesses can not in any way be involved with the event. That's where the CBC Do Crew comes in - I'm looking for ten people to join me on the 19th at Spray lakes Sawmills Family Sports Centre in Cochrane.
Two people per shift. 7:30 - 11:30, 11:30 - 3:30 and 3:30 to 5pm.

CBC Calgary Suncor Energy Christmas Food Drive

The annual CBC Suncor Energy Food Bank Drive is rapidly approaching. Each year we collect food and cash donations to benefit the Calgary Food Bank. Donations are accepted at CBC in the NW and at Suncor Energy downtown. You can also donate on-line at www.calgaryfoodbank.com. Last year we raised 1.3 milliion.

ASRAB Sight Night 2012

I am recruiting really early for this Do Crew Mission. We're helping with Sight Night 2012. It's a Vision Optional run/walk to raise money for the Alberta Sports and Recreation Association for the Blind (ASRAB)
I'm looking for 15 more people to help with a variety of volunteer positions. The event takes place outside at night and can get pretty chilly (last year it was -28). Volunteers are needed inside & out so please think about where you would be most comfortable.
A Volunteer training and information night has been scheduled for Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. in the meeting room at Eau Claire Market.

Easter Seals Camp Horizon - Camp Clean Up

We're off to camp for our CBC Do Crew Mission. I'm looking for twelve volunteers to help at Easter Seals Camp Horizon this Saturday. 50 - 70 campers visit Camp Horizon every week for 12 weeks during the summer. At the end of each week the camp must be cleaned up and readied for the next group of campers. The CBC Do Crew will be helping with the last cleanup of the summer.
If you have a few hours to spare and are willing to get dirty I could use your help. Please dress in layers (it's chilly in the morning) and bring along lunch or something to snack on.
Stampede Lottery sales

For our next CBC Do Crew mission I'm looking for salespeople. If you've got the gift of the gab - I need you to help sell tickets with the Kinsmen Club at Stampede Park.
Over the last ten years The Stampede Lottery program has raised over 22 million dollars for local charities. The program is run by a volunteer committee with man/woman power provided by different community service organisations. Among them, The Kinsmen Club and, in a special appearance for the Centennial, the CBC Do Crew.
I'm looking for 15 people to help me sell tickets for The Trucks'n'Toys, Boats'n'Wheels and Truck n' Fifth Wheel packages. We'll be working from 9am - 2pm on Monday July 9th at Stampede Park.
I highly recommend transit to get there as parking is tricky, expensive and not provided. Lunch and soft drinks are supplied and you get a Stampede gate pass good for the day.

Women in Need Society donation sort

LITTLE FREE LIBRARY BUILD

This is a library that Calgarian Cheri Macaulay built for the www.3thingsforcalgary.ca campaign. It's proudly displayed in her front yard in Brentwood.
That's the inspiration for our next Do Crew mission - we're going to build 5 of these libraries. Then we're going to auction them off at the 2012 CBC Calgary Reads Book Sale in May
I'm looking for volunteers to help build and decorate the little libraries here at CBC. The basic structure will be provided (wood & plexiglass) but any extra supplies you could bring along would be greatly appreciated.
A big thank you to Totem Bowness for donating the wood & plexi and to Lowes Sunridge for cutting all of the pieces for us!
Some of the items we need:

brushes
wood glue
hammers
nails
decorative touches for the boxes. Just remember the libraries are outside so anything we use must be able to stand up to Mother Nature.

Homeless Foundation - Project Homeless Connect

Our next mission is Project Homeless Connect. It's a tradefair for those at risk of or experiencing homelessness in Calgary. Hosted by the Homeless Foundation, it's a free event at the atrium at City Hall. 800 Macleod Tr SE. 45 agencies and services providers will be on site. Services provided include: legal advice and help getting identification; mental health and addictions counselling; information on income support; employment counselling; housing information; a variety of medical services and more. Attendees can also get haircuts, comfort kits (toiletries, socks, mitts and toques), clothing and a nutritious, hot lunch.
The Do Crew will be lending a hand making sure everyone gets fed. I'm looking for 15 people to join me on Saturday April 21st from 11am - 2:30ish. We're on lunch duty.
Here's the job description:
Volunteers are responsible for: taking meal tickets, serving food from buffet lines, and/or clearning tables; assisting the caterer with coordination and distribution of meals; and communicating with the team lead about the line up or possible issues. Servers are expected to follow health and safety guidelines such as wearing aprons, gloves, etc. Cleaning such as moving dishes and trays to the catering prep area, sorting recycling, garbage pick up, and helping with tear down is also required.

Hi Angela. The count is in. McMan and Servants Anonymous would like to thank you and CBC for doing an outstanding job on promoting our Raising the Roof cause. WE HAVE SOLD OUT! Our campaign for Toque Tuesday was a success. In total McMan has raised $20,000.00 in sales. Thank you again. I have received so many compliments about your volunteers. Our staff were totally amazed at how wonderful they were and how they believed in and supported our cause regarding youth homelessness. Thank you, again, so very much.

The Toque Campaign is all about putting a cap on youth homelessness. Toque Tuesday is a one day blitz to sell as many toques as possible. Each toque sells for $10. All money raised stays here in Calgary. The proceeds will be divided between McMan Youth Family & Community Services Association and Servants Anonymous Society of Calgary.
I need 20 bright eyed volunteers to help me sell toques downtown from 6:30am - 9am. The good news is we are NOT outside. We'll be selling the toques throughout the plus 15 system.

Double Do Crew event at Inn From the Cold

Here's our mission: to help Calgary's first Family Emergency Shelter with some much needed renovation work. The Inn from the Cold Family Shelter provides emergency shelter, support and programs to homeless children, their families and others in need. The shelter is housed in an building that's nearly one hundred years old - so it needs a little work
This is a Do Crew first! There are two seperate Do Crews at work for this volunteer project. Angela's Do Crew (I need 10 volunteers per shift) and Mike's Do Crew. Mike Youden of One Call Maintenance has assembled a crack team of skilled trades people including Lawrence Moss from One Call Maintenance, Ryan Jakovic from Greened Out Landscaping and Richard Notter flooring expert. All are volunteering their time. Together we'll get the shelter in shape for the holiday season.
Mike's Do Crew will be renovating one the shelter's 2nd floor bathrooms. A complete reno that is going to take a few days to complete. Angela's Do Crew will be doing a complete makeover of one of the family areas in the shelter. Lots of painting and creativity required.

triWELLathon for Wellspring Calgary

Time: 10am - 4pm
I need 20 volunteers to help with our next Do Crew Mission is in the SE. There are two shifts from 10am to 1:30pm and 1:15 to 3:45pm. We are helping raise funds and awareness for Wellspring Calgary. Wellspring provides resources free of charge to support people in their cancer journey.
Similar to a triathlon, participants will take part in a minimum of 3- 50 minute classes. Classes will run throughout the day and the participants can pick and choose, similar to a conference. There are five categories of classes: Dance, Meditation, Tai Chi/Qi Gong, Exercise and Yoga.
Do Crew members will ensure that each of the sessions runs smoothly. This includes greeting participants as they arrive to the class. If equipment is required, assisting participants to get this equipment. Answering inquiries by participants about things like where the washrooms are located. Cleaning up after one class in preparation for the next class.
There will be a 15 min volunteer orientation at the start of your shift to explain your roles, give you some more information on Wellspring Calgary and the triWELLathon and answer any questions you may have.

Women Build is an international movement that helps bring women together for a common purpose: to change the lives of families in their own communities. Women of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to volunteer in a non-traditional capacity -construction. It allows participants to learn new skills and trades so they can contribute to providing families safe homes in which to grow. HFH Calgary is very excited to be hosting this special event and are looking forward to working with many people May 2nd -May 7th in Cochrane, AB.
6th Annual Hike for Hospice

Painting Party for Morpheus Theatre

The next CBC Do Crew Mission is a painting party! Morpheus Theatre has a new location for their rehearsal space and administration office. They are down to the finishing touches - enter the Do Crew. Toy Room at the Womens Centre - volunteers needed weekdays from Dec. 13 to the 24th at noon. The centre is also looking for donations of new unwrapped toys for children ages newborn to eighteen. For more information call Carolina at 403-264-1155.

Military Museums of Calgary Remembrance Day Ceremony

The next CBC Do Crew Mission is assisting with the Remembrance Day Ceremony at the Military Museums of Calgary. Over 12,000 attend each year. The event is held outdoors so volunteers will need to be prepared for the weather. I am looking for 12 Do Crew volunteers to help out where needed. Each Do Crew member will be teamed up with a volunteer from the Military Museums.
Stick It To Prostate Cancer Ball Hockey Tournament
When: Sunday October 3 / 10
Where: Cross Irons Mills parking lot, Balzac
Time: 8:30 - 5pm
The first ever Stick It To Prostate Cancer Ball Hockey Tournament is Sunday October 3 in the Cross Iron Mills parking lot. Over 400 participants have signed up but volunteers are urgently required. Enter the CBC Do Crew. I'm looking for 50 crew members to help with rink support. There are teams playing on 12 rinks volunteers need to make sure games are timed are on schedule. We also need volunteers to help out at the Kids Zone, assisting kids with the various activities.
There are two shifts available 8:30am - 1pm and 1pm - 5pm.

Cochrane & Area Humane Society Mutt Strut Promo Day

We're recuiting 24 dog lovers to help hand out brochures promoting the Cochrane Humane Society's Mutt Strut. The Strut happens September 11 at Mitford Park in Cochrane and they need a little help getting the word out. That's where the CBC Do Crew comes in. We'll be chatting up the event and distributing brochures in each of the parking areas at Nose Hill Park.

Chinatown 100 Fireworks Celebration

The Chinatown 100 Fireworks Celebration is dedicated to all Calgarians past and present, who have helped to shape 100 years of Chinatown's history, and to the people who will help create it's future.
The event takes place on the Centre St Bridge. Dinner, music, entertainment and an incredible fireworks display to wrap up the evening.
I need 50 CBC DO Crew members to help with security around the fireworks staging area for the whole day. Each volunteer will recive a volunteer T-shirt, parking pass and a ticket to the event.
Shifts are: 9am - 1pm; 1pm - 5pm; 5 - 8pm; and 8 - 11pm
YWCA of Calgary Float Building

We're looking for "celebrity wrangler's" to help out with the Lawson Lundell Celebrity hor d'Oeurvres event to benefit ATP. The job description for the "Celebrity Wrangler" would be as follows...Assist Celebrities in the sales of hors d'oeuvres, collecting tokens for each sold; supporting and highlighting the celebrity throughout the event.
Dress Code: Anything goes...most people will be dressed up, so it's up to the volunteer as to how dressy and outrageous they want to go.
The event starts late at 8:45pm on Friday February 19th at the Telus Convention Centre. You'll be needed from 8:45 to 11:30ish.

We're looking for 40 volunteers to help out at the Calgary Food Bank. Volunteers will be sorting and packing food donations. We'll be in the warehouse so please dress comfortably.

We're helping the Nature Conservancy of Canada by building and installing Mountain Bluebird nestboxes at the Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation area. The date is Sunday September 20 from 10am - 3pm. Crew members are responsible for their own transportation to the area which is southwest of Spruce Meadows. We need 20 box builders.
Gobal Fest

Help us celebrate Canada night at GlobalFest on Friday August 21, 2009. We have two shifts to choose from either a) helping to put up sponsorship signage in the afternoon (12:00 pm - 4:00 pm) b) handing out Canadian flags in the evening (5:30 pm - 9:30 pm). or 3 ) Volunteer for both shifts. All volunteers will be provided food and beverages for Canada night as well as a site badge which allows access for every night of the festival.
Sun'n'Salsa

Sun'n'Salsa is a salsa tasting competition coming up Sunday July 19. We need 30 people to lend a hand selling salsa chips and water, among other things, to raise money for the Salvation Army Agape Hospice. There are a variety of volunteer positions available from 6am to 8pm . Most of the shifts are about three hours long. It's the perfect volunteer experience for families.

Brown Bagging it for Calgary's Kids provides lunches for at risk elementary school children across the city. We need 10 volunteers to help assemble lunches and pack lunches.
Wellspring Calgary

We're looking for 10 volunteers to help Wellspring Calgary with the move to their new location. Wellspring is provides resources and support to those struggling with cancer, their family and caregivers. The move is from Parkdale Crescent in the NW to their new home called Carma House in Montgomery. Dress comfortably as we'll be helping pack and move boxes around. There is some light lifting involved.
CBC / Calgary Reads Book Sale

After a month of collecting books for this event now we have to sell them all! For the first time we are opening the doors on a Friday night so we can accomodate as many book lovers as possible. We need your help. We're looking for 20 cheerful crew members to assist wherever needed during the sale. Refreshments are provided.
Habitat for Humanity - Mayland Heights Build

We're looking for 23 volunteer crew members to hop on board and help us DO what needs to be done to get deserving families into their new homes.
You must be at least 16 or older to volunteer on the site. Anyone who's 16 or 17 needs an adult with them in order to volunteer. There is a cost of $50 - that covers your food, snacks, beverages and a hat. The remaining $25 goes to the cost of building the homes.
