Carless in Calgary

Rain, rain, go away ... or stay?

Tuesday, June 16, 2009

I took the train and walked today, to enjoy the beautiful day. I wore shorts and a t-shirt, sandles. Now I look out the window. The sky is dark grey, brightened by white lightning, and the ground is soaked by rain. And I think, thank the powers-that-be that, I had enough foresight to pack my waterproof cycling jacket.

Need a topic, Allan? If it's not to bold of me to suggest, what about all the fixed gear bikes out there? Some choose to ride fixies without brakes, relying solely on skidding the rear tire to stop. Not only is this a dangerous way to ride, but also it puts a ton of stress on the knees. A lot of fixies will have at least a front brake, maybe a rear one too.
Just like the oodles of kids who may be hard of hearing early in life due to their music players, young fixie riders might have elderly knees way to soon in life.
