The CBC Breaking Barriers Film Fund is a narrative feature film fund that supports the production of English language films from filmmakers and creators who bring diverse voices and stories that engage and reflect Canadians on the big and small screens. Our commitment is to fund high quality productions that reflect, represent and reframe diverse perspectives through character driven stories that are at the center of the Canadian experience.
CBC is seeking English language feature film projects that are written and directed by Canadian women, Indigenous persons, visible minorities, LGBTQ persons and persons with a disability. The projects must achieve at least six out of 10 points on the CAVCO scale and have an existing final draft script. Eligible projects will be judged on the film’s creative merit. There are no application deadlines rather applications should be submitted when they are creatively ready.
The key creative team (writer and/or director) must meet at least one of the following eligibility criteria:
At least one feature-length narrative film showcased at a recognized national and/or itnernational film festival (list of festivals can be found on our FAQ page)
At least three directing credits on scripted episodic series
At least one feature-length documentary showcased at a recognized national and/or international film festival
At least one short film showcased at a recognized A-list international film festival
