StoryNet: Joan Dow

StoryNet_Cynthia and Joan Dow.JPGWhen it comes to volunteering along the Baie des Chaleurs, Joan (Bisson) Dow is a household name. As co-founder of the British Gaspesian Heritage Village in New Richmond, she has inspired younger generations to learn about the history of English-speaking communities along that coast. In this week's StoryNet feature, Dwane Wilkin played excerpts from an interview with Joan Dow, and one of her daughters, Cynthia.

StoryNet: Beryl Tovim

BWY_Tovim.jpgFrom the Blitz of London, to an Israeli kibbutz, to an old farmhouse in Hemmingford, in this week's edition of StoryNet on Breakaway, we met Beryl Tovim.  Most people in Hemmingford, in the Montérégie, know her as the woman who helped bring in the community library.  As Dwane Wilkins of the Quebec Anglophone Heritage Network explained, Beryl Tovin's own story reads like a book.

StoryNet: Fishing for salmon (and love!) on the Grand Cascapedia

Bwy_Lina-Condo-and-Terry-Barter.jpgTwo weeks ago, the season opened on the Grand Cascapedia, an elite river for salmon fishing.  On this week's StoryNet feature, Dwane Wilkin played excerpts from a conversation between Lina Condo and Terry Barter, husband and wife, and retired river guides.  They love - and found love - on that grand river.  Daughter Renée, an artist who recently moved back to the region, interviewed her parents.
