Original musical drama "Grosse Île" staged at CEGEP St. Lawrence
An original musical drama called "Grosse Île" debuts this evening at CEGEP St. Lawrence, in Quebec City. It tells the story of the island in the St. Lawrence that served as a quarantine station for the Port of Quebec (1832 to 1937), where more than 5 000 souls, mostly Irish immigrants, were buried after dying of typhus in 1847. The show is dedicated to the late Marianna O'Gallagher who made it her life's work to preserve Irish history in the Quebec City area.
