Toronto's TD Kids Book Club brings painter Emily Carr to life with Kit Pearson
In November, Kit Pearson will share her middle grade novel A Day of Signs and Wonders with students at St. Robert Catholic School in Toronto. A finalist for the TD Canadian Children's Literature Award, the book is an exploration of one fateful day in the life of celebrated Canadian painter, Emily Carr. It's also an account of Emily's unlikely friendship with the young Victorian socialite, Kitty O'Reilly.
CBC Toronto's Here and Now will broadcast highlights from the classroom visit, and is inviting listeners to write to firstname.lastname@example.org or tweet at @cbchereandnow for a chance to win a set of all five books nominated for the TD Canadian Children's Literature Award. Entrants should tell the show about one of their own childhood friends — or a best friend from another chapter of their lives — and what makes this person special. The winner will be announced live on Monday, Nov. 20.
In 2016, Grades 3 and 4 students at Toronto's First Nations School had the opportunity to meet finalist Willow Dawson, and hear about her book, The Wolf Birds.
