Esi Edugyan 2011
Esi Edugyan's second novel, Half-Blood Blues, was chosen from a field of six exceptionally strong novels, including former winner Michael Ondaatje's The Cat's Table and fellow Man Booker finalist Patrick deWitt's The Sisters Brothers. After her name was called, an emotional Edugyan, who had welcomed her first child a couple months earlier, contemplated the "miraculous year in all spheres of [her] life."

"I could die tomorrow and everything is wonderful," she said.

In the clip below, she tells Jian Ghomeshi about what the win means to her.
