Scotiabank Giller Prize Guess the Giller contest

From Oct. 4 to November. 8, 2011

1. TO ENTER

To enter the Scotiabank Giller Prize Guess the Giller contest, you must complete the official entry form available on the CBC Books Portal published between Oct. 4 and Nov. 8. You must give the answer to the mandatory question, along with your name, e-mail address, age, and postal code, and return it to: http://www.cbc.ca/books/scotiabankgillerprize/guessthegiller/index.html.

To be valid, all entry forms must be received by 9 p.m. ET on Nov. 8., 2011.

Limit of one entry per person. Entry forms become the property of CBC and will not be returned to contestants.

Texts should be no more than 250 words. All texts must be composed by and be the original work of the contestant, and must not violate the rights of any third party. By submitting an entry, contestants assign all rights and waive any moral rights they may have in their texts. Contestants acknowledge that CBC may publish this text in whole or in part, on any medium (radio, television, Internet or other).

No purchase required.

2. ELIGIBILITY

Contest is open to all Canadian residents who have reached the age of majority in their province of residence at the time of entering the contest. Employees of CBC, Scotiabank, Kobo, the participating publishers, and their affiliates, as well as their immediate family (father/mother, brother/sister, son/daughter) or persons living under the same roof are not eligible to enter this contest.

3. PROCEDURE FOR AWARDING PRIZES

On each Friday from Oct. 7 to Nov. 11, CBC Books producers will hold a random draw to select a winner of a set of shortlisted books.

Each draw will be made from among all entries received.

On each Monday from Oct. 10 to Nov. 7, CBC Books producers will hold a random draw to select a winner of a Kobo eReader package.

Each draw will be made from among all entries received.

On Nov. 9, CBC Books producers will hold a random draw for the grand prize winner. This draw will be made from among all eligible entries received that correctly guessed this year's Scotiabank Giller Prize-winning book, including contestants who won shortlisted books or a Kobo eReader package.

Winners will be contacted by telephone during the week following the draw and should claim their prize as instructed by CBC by no later than five days after the date they were initially contacted. If the prize is not claimed within this period, a new draw will be held.

4. DESCRIPTION OF PRIZE(S)

The grand prize includes:

• A visit from the 2011 Scotiabank Giller prize-winning author to contest winner's home town, courtesy of Scotiabank. The hometown or residence of  the contest winner must be in Canada
• A restaurant meal for the contest winner and four (4) guests with the 2011 prize-winning author (maximum value: $500 CDN ), courtesy of  Scotiabank. The restaurant will be selected in the sole discretion of the sponsor and all decisions made by the sponsor are final. 
•A set of the 2011 Scotiabank Giller Prize shortlisted books
•A Kobo eReader, courtesy of Kobo, with a $50 CDN gift certificate to Chapters Indigo, courtesy of Scotiabank
Approximate value of the prize is $5,000.00


The five Kobo eReader Touch Edition packages include:

•    A Kobo eReader Touch Edition, courtesy of Kobo
•    A $50 CDN Chapters Indigo store gift card, courtesy of Scotiabank
•    The approximate retail value of each prize is two hundred and fifty dollars ($200 CDN)

The five sets of shortlisted books include:
•    A copy of each book on the Scotiabank Giller Prize 2011 shortlist, courtesy of the publishers
•    The approximate retail value of each prize is one hundred and seventy-five dollars ($175 CDN)


The approximate retail value of the grand prize is $3,000 CDN (TBC).

The approximate retail value of the five Kobo eReader packages is $1,250 CDN.
The approximate retail value of the five shortlisted book packages is $875 CDN.

The total value of the prizes is $5,125 CDN (TBC).


5. GENERAL RULES

5.1 To be declared a winner, the contestant must first correctly answer a mathematical skill-testing question.
5.2 Winners, as well as the people accompanying them, or their parents or guardians if the winners and/or the people accompanying them are minors, shall agree, if necessary, to have their name and/or picture, including their photograph, and/or their voices used for advertising purposes related to this contest, free of charge.
5.3 Winners, or their parents or guardians if they are minors, shall sign a document attesting to their eligibility as stipulated in paragraph 2 of these rules and releasing CBC, Scotiabank, their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, from all liability for any damage or loss arising from participation in this contest or from the awarding, acceptance or use of the prize.
5.4 The prize shall be accepted as is and may not be exchanged for an amount of money, nor sold nor transferred. No substitutions will be allowed.
5.5 If the prize cannot be awarded as described in these rules, CBC, Scotiabank, their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, reserve the right to substitute a prize or prize component with another of comparable value.
5.6 Refusal to accept the prize releases CBC, Scotiabank, their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, of any obligation toward the winner.
5.7 Should winners make any false statement, they shall be automatically disqualified from the contest.
5.8 CBC, Scotiabank, their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, shall assume no liability resulting from losses, delays, mistaken addresses on mail or e-mail received, typographical errors, technical, computer or telephone malfunctions, loss or theft of computer or telephone data, damage to software or computer equipment, fraudulent calls or any other mistake.
5.9 CBC, Scotiabank, their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, shall assume no liability whatsoever for any situation in which their inability to act results from an event or situation beyond their control, including a strike, lockout or any other labour dispute at their location or the locations of the organizations and businesses whose services are used to hold this contest
5.10 All personal information, such as your name, address, telephone number, e-mail address and age is collected solely for the purposes of administering this contest and shall not be used for any other purpose without your consent. By providing this information, you consent to it being used for the stated purposes.
5.11 By entering, contestants agree to abide by the contest rules which shall be applied by the CBC. All its decisions are final.
