Barbara P. for Indian Horse by Richard Wagamese

Vancouver, BC

This is a tender, unflinching and beautifully written novel about love, injustice, magic and the power of spirit. No writer but Richard Wagamese could weave together the story of Canada's residential schools and our passion for hockey in quite this way, and his evocations of the northern landscape are breathtaking. Wagamese's work deserves to be much more widely celebrated, and this novel is a stunning achievement.
