CBC Short Story Prize

Explore the 2017 CBC Short Story Prize shortlist.

The winner will be announced on April 19, 2017.

Submissions for the 2018 CBC Short Story Prize will open in September.

WHAT: Submit your original, unpublished stories.

WHEN:The competition is open for submissions from September 1 to October 31.

WHO: All Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada.

HOW: While the competition is active, submit online by clicking the "submit" link below or, if you wish to submit by mail, you can download the offline submission form. A fee of $25.00 (taxes included) for administration purposes is required for each entry.

WHAT YOU CAN WIN: The winner receives $6,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts, have their story published in Air Canada enRoute magazine and will have the opportunity to attend a 10-day writing residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. Four finalists will receive $1,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts and have their story published on CBC Books.

WHAT YOU CAN WRITE: You can submit original, unpublished fiction between 1200 and 1800 words.

The 2016 winner was David Huebert for "Enigma."
