"What Foreign Game of War?"
By Madelaine Alaric

‘What I say? What I say do I see before my very eyes?! You all, fellow peoples of this strange, deluxe land? I see men, dozens! Rampantly scattered upon the frozen ground of winter! How gracefully filled you are with your light dances across the surface of winter, and yet you then throw yourself upon one-another like crazed, mad men! How you beat the ground with… Sticks! Sticks of wood! Weapons! Silver blades upon your feet?! have you all an injury of a sort? And by gods… What of that flat disk you chase for so vigorously… Has it the value of gold? Oh what of this unfamiliar foreign ways!? You all strive for the small black disk that glades upon the ground of winter so fiercely… A war, is it not?! A war indeed! Sir’s, oh sir’s! What is this rampage for? War? Is it war I see before my eyes? Between the men of the Ruby and Sapphire! Oh what of the strange crest you bear upon your breast! Alas! Alas a great quarrel between those of ruby and those of sapphire! Alas! Alas! Watch as ruby strikes upon sapphire with the utmost force! The great blow of a champion shall always leave a scar of permanent trial! You fight like such fierce warriors, all for that simple, black disk upon the ground! Oh why so? Why so!? But… It is a most enjoyable sight to see. Onwards ruby! Onwards and strike down sapphire with a powerful blow! Alas! I Henry the fifth, do dare so to say that this be the most entertaining play to watch! Strike on ruby! Strike on!’

The winner of the Shakespeare Selfie competition will be announced on Friday, May 16.
