Crime Writers of Canada announce 2014 Arthur Ellis Award finalists

Canada’s national association for mystery and crime writers announced last night the shortlists for the 2014 Arthur Ellis Awards

Recognizing the best in Canadian crime writing published within the last year, the Arthur Ellis Awards consist of prizes in eight categories. Two categories offer cash prizes, while all eight winners will receive a hand-crafted wood model of a hanging man (the organization’s symbol).

The finalists are:

The Unhanged Arthur Award is for unpublished work. In addition to a cash prize, the winner of this award will have his or her work evaluated and critiqued by an editor at Dundurn Press. 

The Crime Writers of Canada has also added an eighth prize to their list of awards this year. The CWC Grand Master Award for Crime Writing in Canada will go to a Canadian crime writer with a substantial body of work that has garnered national and international recognition. This year the award will go to Howard Engel, author of the award-winning Benny Cooperman detective series.

The winners of the 2014 Arthur Ellis Awards will be announced at an awards gala held on June 5 at the Arts and Letters Club in Toronto.
