CBC Literary Prizes' Checklist

Here’s a useful checklist that you should use and make sure you comply with before submitting your entry(ies) to the CBC Literary Prizes. Print it, pin or tape it to the wall next to your computer, leave it on your desk or kitchen table (wherever you're working on your piece)!

Before pressing "Submit" ask yourself:

Does my entry respect the allowed word count?
For Short Story and Creative Nonfiction: 1200 to 1500 words, and for Poetry: 400 to 600 words.

Did I remove personal information from my file?
The Prizes are a blind competition, your contact information should be on the entry form, not in the document containing your submission.

Did I remove any illustrations from my file?
Those are not accepted for submissions to the CBC Literary Prizes.

Has this piece ever been published or broadcast anywhere?
This includes self-publications and online as well (yes, Facebook pages and personal blogs count). If it's been published somewhere, it will be ineligible.

Did you read the Rules & Regulations and the FAQ
Most mistakes can be avoided if you take the time to actually read those. We also tackled the most common mistakes people make when submitting to the Prizes. Have a look at those too!

Finally, if you’re paying by cheque, did you:
 Enter the correct date?
Make it out to “CBC Literary Prizes”?
 Sign the cheque?
Write the title of your entry or your ID number if you’ve submitted the text online?

To encourage thoughtful and respectful conversations, first and last names will appear with each submission to CBC/Radio-Canada's online communities (except in children and youth-oriented communities). Pseudonyms will no longer be permitted.
