CBC Poetry Prize: The finalists

CBC’s Canada Writes—with its partners the Canada Council for the Arts, Air Canada's enRoute magazine and The Banff Centre—is pleased to announce today the finalists for the CBC Poetry Prize / Prix du poésie Radio-Canada.     

The English and French texts were selected by a jury from over 2,000 poems that were received from across the country. 

The five English-language finalists are (alphabetically):

Read the shortlisted poems by clicking on the boxes above. And, as of today, you will have until 9 a.m (ET) on Tuesday, September 24 to vote for your favourite works [UPDATE: VOTE NOW CLOSED]. Although the results of this vote will not have any impact on the final outcome, the winner of the public vote will get bragging rights and will know that his/her story was voted as the favourite among Canadians.

The Grand Prize winner, as selected by the jury, will be announced on Monday, September 30. The jury for this year’s CBC Poetry Prize is made up of Sue Goyette, David McGimpsey, and Anne Michaels.

In addition to a cash prize of $6,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Grand Prize winner will receive a writing residency at The Banff Centre and will be published in Air Canada’s enRoute magazine. The four other finalists will each receive $1,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts.


To encourage thoughtful and respectful conversations, first and last names will appear with each submission to CBC/Radio-Canada's online communities (except in children and youth-oriented communities). Pseudonyms will no longer be permitted.
