Creative Nonfiction Prize
Photos from Banff: Creative Nonfiction Prize ceremony
We just got back from Banff. If you've never been before, the city is breathtaking. It’s very easy to look at the mountains, and The Banff Centre’s surroundings, and feel how inspiring it must be to work on piece of writing here.
We brought our two Grand Prize winners (English winner Mo Srivastava and French winner Esteban Gonzalez) to Banff for our Creative Nonfiction Prize ceremony, which was held on July 25.
Diane Miljours from the Canada Council for the Arts was present to hand over the cheques, and our host Steven Ross Smith gave our winners the certificates for their writing residencies at The Banff Centre’s Leighton Artists’ Colony. The winners also got to see, for the first time, what their prize-winning stories look like in the pages of Air Canada’s enRoute magazine.
The writers read from their works and were interviewed on stage by the CBC’s Russell Bowers and Radio-Canada’s Evelyne Asselin. The prize ceremony was part of an evening of readings by writers in The Banff Centre’s Literary Journalism program, allowing our winners to find out first hand what they can expect from their residencies.
Next month we will be checking in with last year’s winners to see how they enjoyed their time in Banff.
