CBC Creative Nonfiction Prize: The finalists


CBC’s Canada Writes—with our partners the Canada Council for the Arts, Air Canada's enRoute magazine and The Banff Centre—is pleased to announce today the finalists for the CBC Creative Nonfiction Prize / Prix du récit Radio-Canada.   

The English and French texts were selected by a jury from over 3,000 stories that were received from across the country. 

The four English-language finalists are (alphabetically):

Read the shortlist
Beginning today and continuing until July 13, you will able to read the shortlisted stories on the Canada Writes site. One new story will be published each weekday morning. Once all stories have been published, you will be able to vote for your favourite (please note that this vote has no effect on the final outcome). Voting begins July13. 

Winner announcement
The Grand Prize winner, as selected by the CBC Creative Nonfiction jury, will be announced on Monday, July 23. Jury members this year are writers Charles Foran, Charlotte Gill and Marina Nemat.

In addition to a cash prize of $6,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Grand Prize winner will receive a two-week writing residency at The Banff Centre and will be published in Air Canada’s enRoute magazine. The other finalists will each receive $1,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts, and will be published on the Canada Writes website.
