CBC Short Story Prize

Daniel Karasik receives Lit Award in Montreal

Last Thursday, a crowd gathered in Montreal to raise a glass in honour of the winners of this year’s CBC Short Story Prize / Prix de la nouvelle Radio-Canada.

Representatives from enRoute magazine, the Canada Council for the Arts, The Banff Centre, and CBC/Radio-Canada were all on hand to celebrate Grand Prize winners Daniel Karasik (English) and Geneviève Jannelle (French). The event took place at the Opus Hotel during the annual Blue Metropolis Literary Festival.

Each winner walked away with a $6,000 cheque from the Canada Council for the Arts, a certificate for a writing residency at The Banff Centre’s Leighton Artists’ Colony, and fresh copies of their story in enRoute magazine.

CBC host Shelagh Rogers and Radio-Canada literary columnist Jean Fugère animated the event.  Listen to Shelagh speak with Daniel »

Daniel also read his award-winning story “Mine” at the festival on Saturday afternoon alongside writers Tamara Faith Berger, Daniel Allen Cox, Peter Dubé and Nicole Lundrigan.

He returned home on Sunday afternoon where another big week is ahead of him. Daniel’s play The Innocents is opening in Toronto at the Tarragon Theatre Studio on Thursday and continues until May 13.

Congratulations again to Daniel Karasik and Geneviève Jannelle!
