Feist's writing tip: write for yourself
Her upcoming album, Metals, is already drawing comparisons to Carole King and Leonard Cohen. Who better, then, than singer-songwriter Leslie Feist to give us some words of writing wisdom?
"I guess you have to be very selfish when you write. And that means identifying what you're curious about, what you're interested in, and imagining not a soul on earth will ever hear it - so you truly make something only for yourself. That, I think, is the only way to begin. Because if you start to think to other people while you're in that mindset, then you're not listening to yourself anymore."
Feist's fifth solo album, Metals, will be released on October 4.
