Where are the Literary Awards?

The CBC Literary Awards are becoming three separate competitions, in short story, creative nonfiction and poetry, with three different deadlines during the year. The CBC Short Story Prize is up first, with a November 1st deadline. The competition opens September 1st.

Check for the new word counts and other entry information here. Cash prizes of $60,000 continue to be offered by the Canada Council for the Arts and publication of the winners will continue in enRoute magazine. You'll also hear your work on CBC radio and throughout our website.

Canada Writes is now year-round; Youcan look forward not only to the three CBC Literary Prizes but also to ongoing writing challenges in different formats and genres: mystery, speculative fiction, humour, etc. This is your chance to have your work read, published online and recognized! In fact, you can learn more about our first challenge here.

You can also participate in writing workshops with well-known Canadian writers and share the experience online.

And Canada Writes will feature original stories from writers across the country as well as editorials, writing news and recommendations by our own staff.

We're very excited about the changes and hope you will be too.

So get writing!!
