Jeff Lemire talks about Essex County

Jeff Lemire's Essex County consists of three interconnected graphic novels (a Canada Reads first!) — Tales from the Farm, Ghost Stories and The Country Nurse. Centred on the lives of three characters who are loosely connected — a boy being raised by his uncle after the death of his mother, a former hockey star haunted by the past, and a lonely nurse with a secret — they paint an unforgettable portrait of a small farming community in Southwestern Ontario.

Rural communities, hockey and three tales of loss, resilience and hope: what could be more Canadian?

When Jeff came to the Canada Reads 2011 launch, we asked him about his writing influences, the advice he'd give Sara Quin and more!
