We're looking for regular readers to submit recommendations to us to create the list of the Top 40 Essential Canadian Novels of the Decade. If you have a suggestion, you can fill out this handy form here.
We have three great 40-book libraries to give away and we will be doing so on Monday, October 11, Monday, October 18 and Monday, October 25 in a random draw (all the legal details are below.) You are allowed to enter once per draw, that is, once a week. The Top 40 list will be announced on October 26 and on that day, we'll have an even bigger and better contest for you to enter!
Each recommendation will count as one point towards that novel. Each vote in a poll on the Canada Reads website counts as one point towards that novel. Each Facebook and Twitter recommendation counts as one point towards that novel. The 40 qualifying novels with the most points will be named the "Top 40 essential novels of the decade!"
The top 40 will be announced on Tuesday, October 26.
Until then, here's all you need to know about this contest:
1. TO ENTER
To enter the Canada Reads Top 40 contest, send us your recommendation for the essential Canadian novel of the past 10 years. You can submit your entry as text, video or audio.

To be valid, all entries must be received by midnight, Monday, October 25, 2010.
Entries become the property of CBC and will not be returned to contestants.
All audio files, text files, video files and telephone messages must feature the original work of the contestant, and must not violate the rights of any third party. By submitting an entry, contestants assign all rights and waive any moral rights they may have to their audio files, video files, telephone messages and texts, and have obtained a specific waiver of moral rights from all persons who may have moral rights with respect to the entry to CBC. Contestants acknowledge that CBC may publish this audio file, video file, telephone message and/or text in whole or in part, on any medium (radio, television, Internet or other), and may modify, edit or otherwise use the entry in whole or in part, free of charge.2. ELIGIBILITY
The contest is open to all Canadian citizens or permanent residents. You are allowed to submit one entry per person. Employees of CBC and their affiliates, as well as their immediate family (father/mother, brother/sister, son/daughter) or persons living under the same roof, are not eligible to enter this contest as contestants.3. PROCEDURE FOR AWARDING PRIZES
The winners will be drawn randomly by the CBC Canada Reads team every Monday morning at 9 a.m. ET for the duration of the contest. Winners will be contacted by telephone or e-mail during the week following the contest deadline and should accept their prize as instructed by CBC by no later than five (5) days after the date they were initially contacted. If the prize is not claimed within this period, a new winner will be chosen.
4. DESCRIPTION OF PRIZE(S)
There will be three winners, one drawn on October 11, one drawn on October 18 and one drawn on October 25. Each winner will receive a 40-book prize pack, composed of assorted titles from a variety of publishers, valued at approximately $450 CDN.
The prize includes only what is specifically described herein and no other allowance will be granted.5. GENERAL RULES
5.1 To be declared a winner, the entrant must first correctly answer a mathematical skill-testing question.
5.2 Winners, as well as the people accompanying them, or their parents or guardians if the winners and/or the people accompanying them are minors, shall agree, if necessary, to have their name and/or picture, including their photograph, and/or their voices, used for advertising purposes related to this contest, free of charge.
5.3 Winners, or their parents or guardians if they are minors, shall sign a document attesting to their eligibility as stipulated in paragraph 2 of these rules and releasing CBC, their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, from all liability for any damage or loss arising from participation in this contest or from the awarding, acceptance or use of the prize.
5.4 The prize shall be accepted as is and may not be exchanged for an amount of money, nor sold nor transferred. No substitutions will be allowed.
5.5 If the prizes cannot be awarded as described in these rules, CBC, their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, reserve the right to substitute a prize or prize component with another of comparable value.
5.6 Refusal to accept the prize releases CBC, their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, of any obligation toward the winners.
5.7 Should winners make any false statement, they shall be automatically disqualified from the contest.
5.8 CBC, their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, shall assume no liability resulting from losses, delays, mistaken addresses on mail or e-mail received, typographical errors, technical, computer or telephone malfunctions, loss or theft of computer or telephone data, damage to software or computer equipment, fraudulent calls or any other mistake.
5.9 CBC, their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, shall assume no liability whatsoever for any situation in which their inability to act results from an event or situation beyond their control, including a strike, lockout or any other labour dispute at their location or the locations of the organizations and businesses whose services are used to hold this contest.
5.10 All personal information, such as name, address, telephone number, e-mail address and age, is collected solely for the purposes of administering this contest and shall not be used for any other purpose without contestants' consent. By providing this information, contestants consent to it being used for the stated purposes.
5.11 By entering, contestants agree to abide by the contest rules which shall be applied by the CBC. All its decisions are final.
