Flannery gets ready to take us behind the scenes for the first Canada Reads 2010 debate

Hello, readers.

It's finally here. In just a few short hours, Jian and our five esteemed panelists are going to kick off the Canada Reads 2010 debates on CBC Radio One. I think it's fair to say that these debates are highly anticipated. I know I've been waiting for them to begin since last December 2nd, when our journey began with the announcement of this year's books and the personalities who'll be championing them. Now, nearly three months later, it's time to put the pedal to the metal on this literary road trip. We readers are restless! We need to hear from our panelists.

I'm even more excited today because I'm getting a front-row seat during the proceedings. Sitting in the control room of the Q studio is a pretty great perk. If you're wondering what it's like in there, I can tell you it's very dark and cozy. I got to sit in during our kickoff broadcast way back in December, too. It's like being in the best seats of a very small theatre.

The suspense is truly mounting over here about which of our five books is going to go all five rounds and win the heavyweight title of Canada Reads winner. I've heard tales of unofficial bet-taking in the corridors. It seems one of the panelists and their book aren't the only winners to be announced on March 12—someone is going to be walking away with a pocketful of toonies at the end of Canada Reads 2010, too!

Who would you bet on? Let everyone know by grabbing one of our badges!

No time to waste—I'm gathering my notepad and my pen and getting ready for my visit to the Q studio. I'll be back early this afternoon to give you my take on opening day. And watch for behind-the-scenes video confessionals with the panelists.

Until then,
