The Bookies, part two: Content categories
The Bookies are the CBC Book Club Awards, celebrating the best in literature in 2010, as chosen by you! Join us for this month-long celebration and be sure to champion your favourite reads. The Bookies will consist of 16 categories celebrating the best in books in 2010. Yesterday, we revealed the genre categories. Today, we turn our attention to the eight content categories. Let us know which books you think deserve a spot on the shortlist in each of these categories! Tell us on Twitter (using the #cbcbookies hashtag), Facebook or in the comments below. You could win one of 10 The King's Speech prize packs, courtesy of Penguin Canada, just by sharing your thoughts.
Best Overall Book The granddaddy of all categories: which book (regardless of genre or format) deserves to be called the Best Book of 2010? (Books nominated in yesterday's genre categories are eligible for this one!)
Best Opening Line Which author offered up a turn of phrase that knocked your socks off on the very first page? Nominate it here.
Best New Writer Which author is going to be the next big thing? If their first (or second) book was published last year, jump start their success with a nomination for best new writer.
Best Book-Based Movie The Oscars are coming, ready to celebrate the best in 2010 film. We want to do that too, but with a literary twist. Which 2010 movie with a literary origin deserves a Bookie?
Best Book Cover Sometimes you should judge a book by its cover: nominate the book with the most eye-catching design of 2010.
Best Character If there's a fictional character from the past year that you can't imagine your life without, show them some love with a nomination in this category.
Best Scene Tell us your favourite scene of 2010, whether it brought you to tears or made you laugh so hard you cried. From funny to frightening, it all has a place in our Best Scene category.
Best Relationship This is a place to celebrate romance, but rivals, relatives and best buds all have a shot in our Best Relationship category.
The deadline for nominations for these categories is Sunday, February 6, at midnight ET. The complete rules and regulations are here.
Get your nominations in: they can't win if you don't play! NOMINATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED FOR THESE CATEGORIES. |
