Get ready to rumble, YA style: Introducing the CBC Book Club YA Death Match!![]() We here at the CBC Book Club get into heated discussions about our favourite YA characters all the time. "Anne of Green Gables is the best!" "No, Dawn Schafer from the Baby-Sitters Club!" "Katniss kicks serious butt!" You get the idea. So we decided to once and for all end this endless debate and turn to you, our lovely Book Club members. We're asking you to help us decide the ultimate YA character of all time in a no-holds-barred YA Death Match. Here's how it will work: Today is the "royal rumble" round. Below you'll find four groups of 10 characters. These groups will battle it out in four general polls. We tried to group them thematically so they are evenly matched. At midnight on Sunday, November 7, these polls will close and the two characters from each group (so eight in total) with the most votes will move on to the head-to-head rounds. The first round of head-to-head match-ups will roll out next week and we need you to vote for the character you think should move on. Then there will be four. Then two. Then one. The last character standing will be named the CBC Book Club YA Death Match Ultimate Champion. There will be a belt and bragging rights. It will be good times for all. Well, except for the losers. But we don't associate with losers, do we? The four groups below reflect the trends we see in both classic and contemporary YA fiction: adventurers, those with supernatural powers, the relatable girls next door and the super-sleuths. This is in no way meant to be comprehensive, just fun! If you think we missed a character who should show up in a royal rumble, let us know in the comments below — you never know when a wild-card contestant will be called in! Until then, take a look below and decide who deserves to move on to the next round! Don't forget to campaign for your favourites on Facebook and Twitter. It's time to....get ready to rumble!!! Erin Balser is putting all her money on the Baby-Sitters Club. If you've got a problem with that, let's take it outside. |
