Sign up for the new CBC Poetry Prize newsletter! Starting April 1, when the prize opens, you will receive three emails each week with writing tips from seasoned Canadian writers. These tips will inspire you to write and help you through the editing and revising process before hitting the "submit" button.

You'll also get a chance to ask questions about the prizes and we will get our prize readers (the panel that determines the longlist), jury members (who pick the winner) or the CBC Literary Prizes coordinator to answer them. Just email us at canadawrites@cbc.ca.

The winner of the CBC Poetry Prize will receive $6,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts, have their story published in Air Canada enRoute magazine and will have the opportunity to attend a 10-day writing residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity

Four finalists will receive $1,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts and have their story published on CBCbooks.ca.

The CBC Literary Prizes were established in 1979. Past winners include Michael OndaatjeMichael Winter and Camilla Gibb.

Michael Fraser won the 2016 CBC Poetry Prize for "African Canadian in Union Blue."
