Canada Reads 2017

Meet the Canada Reads 2017 authors at live event on Jan. 31

Excited to discover the five Canada Reads 2017 authors? We'll be announcing them right here on CBC Books on Tuesday, January 31. And if you're in the Toronto area, you can see them live, in person!

Indigo's Heather Reisman will be in conversation with the five authors on Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. ET, live at Indigo Bay and Bloor in Toronto. Seats will be on a first come, first serve basis.

The panellists who'll be championing the five Canada Reads 2017 books will also be announced on Jan. 31. In CBC's annual battle of the books, the five panellists will take stock of where the nation stands today, explore its diverse perspectives and reflect on where we are heading. Their books will be chosen from the longlist of 15 titles.

The Canada Reads 2017 longlist consists of:

The 2016 Canada Reads champion was The Illegal by Lawrence Hill, defended by Olympian Clara Hughes.
