Chris Hadfield is writing a children's book

Superstar Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield has a picture book in the works. It's his first book for young readers, and he is looking to his own childhood for inspiration.
The book, titled The Darkest Dark, is a collaboration between Hadfield and Toronto-based writer Kate Fillion. It will be illustrated by brothers Eric and Terry Fan.

"The Darkest Dark, which was inspired by a career-defining moment in Chris's childhood, is a universal story about facing your fears and following your dreams," said Penguin Random House Canada Children's Group publisher Tara Walker in a press release.

Hadfield's two previous books, An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth and You Are Here, broke sales records to become international bestsellers.

The Darkest Dark is scheduled to be released in fall 2016. It will be published in Canada by Tundra Books, a division of Penguin Random House Canada.
