Ann-Marie MacDonald's Fall on Your Knees to become CBC miniseries


Ann-Marie MacDonald's debut 1996 novel Fall on Your Knees will be adapted into a four-part CBC miniseries. Sharon Mustos, the producer of the CTV series Flashpoint, acquired the option through her production company,, last year. 

Toronto's Shaftesbury Films, the production company behind CBC's Murdoch Mysteries, has signed on to partner in the miniseries. Shaftesbury previous book-to-screen adaptations include Margaret Atwood's The Robber Bride and Vincent Lam's Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures. 

Canadian screenwriter and actress Adriana Maggs will adapt the novel.

An intergenerational saga with roots in a Cape Breton coal mining community, Fall on Your Knees won the 1997 Commonwealth Writers' Prize for first book and was an Oprah's Book Club selection in 2002.

Ann-Marie MacDonald is currently serving as Concordia University's inaugural Mordecai Richler writer-in-residence.
